The weather outside is frightful

We got our first snow of the winter this weekend. It rained a little on Saturday morning, and then the cold front hit very suddenly around 11am. It snowed pretty good for the rest of the day, but not a whole lot of accumulation; maybe 3/4″.

Sunday, it started snowing nice and hard, big flakes. We were up to 3″ by Sunday night.

A tree hit a local power line and knocked out power for 34 homes up here (yes, only 34 in this neighborhood), and everyone’s generator kicked on. Did I mention we don’t have a generator? We lost power right before the Packers game started at 1:30, and it came back on just as we were getting the kids to bed, around 8:30. The house got pretty cold without any heat. We cooked dinner over the gas grill on the deck, and had plenty of blankets to get us through the night.

They sky last night was clear and dark, with lots of bright stars. Orion will be high in the south for winter astronomy.

We hunkered down in our bedroom, kids in sleeping bags and us on the bed. It was noticeably warmer in our room than the rest of the house.

Monday morning (MLK Day, so the kids would have been off anyway) dawned grey and cold, and everyone is pretty much deciding that we’re not going anywhere today. Living at the top of a hill is fun unless it snows.

I just looked up and it’s snowing again. It’s supposed to snow through Wednesday. woo.

As long as the power stays on, all will be well.
