Bellflower wildlife

This guy was floating around when I pulled into the driveway this afternoon. He took a pass through the backyard, then landed on a lightpole down the street.

He stuck around for long enough for me to get several iPhone photos and then come back to the house, get a DSLR, long lens, and memory card loaded up, then I shot several more.

At first glance I thought it was a crow, but it was just too *big*. You don’t get (wild) animals this big in the suburbs all that often.

There is a major construction project going on in the water easement behind the houses across the street. I wonder if this guy is patrolling the area because of that.

These birds are ugly as sin, of course, but just like garbagemen, they have an important job to do. And it’s very cool to see something this big flying 15′ off the ground right down the street.
