Mashed Potatoes

Tonight, we had mashed potatoes, gravy, and peas for dinner for side dishes. Everything was lovely, as usual.

Lucy has been playing the “picky eater” game lately, refusing to eat salad on various occasions, etc.
Generally, the rule is that one must clear the plate before getting more. This is a rule that the kids often try to circumvent, so there’s a lot of “finish your peas before you get any more bread” type conversation around the dinner table. Standard parenting stuff.

Anyway, Lucy piped up that she wanted some more peas. But she hadn’t finished her mashed potatoes. So “finish your mashed potatoes and I’ll give you some more peas”.

She flatly refused.

Let the record show that on this date and at this time, a child refused mashed potatoes and cried over not getting more peas.
