Honey!

We harvested our first load of honey today.

Our first two jars.

We took the two-and-a-half frames of fully-capped blackberry honey, scraped them clean, and ran the resulting mix of wax and honey through a strainer. We then ran that through a slightly finer strainer, and ended up with about a half gallon of honey.

That’s a 2-quart measuring cup next to the jar.

There’s still a bunch of capped honey in the hives, but none of it is placed such that it’s both sides of a frame, at the moment. We’ll give the bees a little more time, then go back in there for some more honey! I’m hoping to get 2 gallons of honey this year.

Go, bees, go!
