Travelogue, Day 8 – There and back again

We set an alarm this morning, so we’d be on the road bright and early. Kristi and I had every intention of getting back to Hilltop today.

It’s Brett’s birthday (his “actual” birthday, as he’d call it) today, so we were trying to keep things peaceful in the car for the birthday boy. The kids were pretty fried, though, and most of the ride was spent wavering over the line between uneasy truce and allout war in the back seat.

We entered Washington about 9am, and the car voted to return on I-90 (the way we’d gone out) instead of the more scenic US-2. Nobody was all that interested in more beautiful sights, thankyouverymuch. We did decide to take Preston-Fall City Road home, rather than going all the way in to I-405. That was a pretty little drive, and we got a chance to stop for lunch at Remlinger Farms, a local U-Pick / Farmer’s Market / Restaurant / Theme Park that we’d heard about. We originally thought we might put the kids through the theme park for Brett’s birthday, but the kids weren’t really up for it, so we ate lunch, noted the location, and headed home. As we wound our way towards Redmond and home, we finished Harry Potter book 1. It was nice to finish a couple of books with the kids; I think it’s something that we’ll all remember about our road trip.

Kristi and I decided that we would watch the Harry Potter movie and enjoy some pie we picked up at Remlinger to celebrate Brett’s birthday once we got home.

We pulled in to Hilltop around 3pm. The trip odometer reads 2076mi. That’s a nice, long trip. It’s good to be home.
