Chicken coop update

I’m caring for the chickens while Kristi is out of town. I set an alarm for myself so I don’t forget.

Today was the first full day in the coop for the bigger birds. The first thing I noticed is that they are definitely using the roosts; there was a bunch of chicken poop all over the roost board, as well as some caught on the mesh. The turds are pretty large at the moment; surprising. Why am I analyzing chicken poop?!

The food tray was pretty much empty but still upright; maybe these 4 need a bit more food than the tray can provide… The water dish was upright (yay, tiedown!), but the water was filled with wood shavings (boo, hiss), so I made a little platform out of 2×3, which will hopefully help the birds have a cleaner supply of water. All the chickens were pretty thirsty today; they’re inside the insulated shop, but it was a hot one today.

The smaller set of chickens seem to be doing OK in their new home; both feed and water were kicked over (of course), but the birds all seem spry and happy. I rigged up a little bracket for their water dish, too, but I’m not as confident in that one; I might have to rework that a few times before I get it right.

Coop works. On we go.
