Coop Build, day 2 – raise the roof

Our build team reverted to Kristi and I, as Cliff and Nikki headed home today after a nice Memorial Day weekend visit.

I headed back to Home Depot to pick up some tar paper and roofing nails, and picked up a couple of utility knives at the same time.

We got started around 10:30, and by the lunch break, we had the first half of the roof on. After lunch, we put on the second half; there was a little extra work to be done, figuring out how to deal with dwindling supplies of roofing tiles, and how to put on a capstone. We finished up around 4:30, and spent 45 minutes cleaning up the build area (those roofing tiles spit a *lot* of little black pebbles everywhere) and thinking about the next steps.

What’s next is to build the roost and the nests, then we can build the ends, and finally, put on the outer cage.

We’re still trying to decide if we can somehow make the ramp feed under the coop, which would make the chicken run a little more self-contained, and would possibly obviate the need to close the coop door at night (until I automate it, of course).

I don’t know when we’re going to work on the coop next, but there is at least another 2 days of effort, one way or the other.
