The day is finally here; we went up to The Bee’s Knees in Snohomish and picked up 6lb of bees this evening. We are going to be running 2 hives this year, which should help us compare/contrast the progress of our new little friends, without going completely overboard with the amount of work involved.
It’s about 4,000 bees per pound, so we have somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 or 30,000 bees in the shop right now. If the two queens do their jobs, that number should grow to about 150,000 by mid-summer.
…but for now, they sit, waiting to be introduced to their hives.
