I’ve had a Philips Pronto TS1000 remote control for 10 years now. It’s a workhorse. I love it. I cannot say enough good things about it.
But it’s starting to show signs of wear.
So I’m looking around for a new remote, and essentially, it comes down to this:
Logitech Harmony is a bad joke being played on the home theater public. The reviews are… caustic. The used market is brisk. nuff said.
Philips Pronto is still the gold standard (loved if you spend the time to program it, hated if you want a plug and play remote).
There have been many models of Pronto since the 1000. Anything with “Pro” in the title and with a model number bigger than 3000 is color.
As of Dec 2010, it looks like the 9400 is the current “direct” replacement, but it’s $800.
So, I looked on eBay, and it looks like the 6000, 7000, or 7500 are all good options. All 3 are color, all 3 have USB connections, and all 3 are available if you search in the range $100 – $250. They ride around $200, but the 6000s can be found on amazon for $100 used.
Any of these look like a good replacement option. Now to save the pennies/dimes and get one.
