What are you going to do next?

We took the kids to Disneyland for the weekend. It was the first time for Brett and Lucy, and they were maybe just a tad too young to really get into it, but it sure was fun to see Disneyland through their eyes.

It was my fifth trip to a Disney park; I’ve been to Disney World twice and this trip makes three times to Disneyland. It’s interesting to me that in the 3 trips to LA, they’ve only added rides, to my knowledge. I am given to understand that Star Tours (one of my favorite rides) is in its last year. I’m glad I got to see it one last time.

Uncle Wil came along with us to the park; it turned out to be his first time to Disneyland, too. That was fun. Watching someone really get into the park is a cool experience. Also, with 3 adults, it was a much better experience as far as getting on rides. One adult could take the kids on a kiddie ride while the other two got to go on an adult ride. Nobody felt left out, and there was always someone to hang out with.

The flights were OK. It was my first time riding Southwest. I can see what they’re trying to do, but I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to fly Southwest again. The convenience of “sit where you like” and “easy standby flying” is outweighed by the rookie ticket agents and flights that always seem to be late.

The hotel we stayed at, Peacock Suites, was just OK, too. I think everything would have been fine if they didn’t have a glitch with their CC processing when we tried to check in. Knowing that I needed my Visa to work all day at the park, not to mention for meals and hotel, it was disconcerting to say the least when we’re trying to check into the hotel with tired kids and a long travel day, only to get “your card was declined” when we knew it to be working and had used it earlier in the day. We even called into the bank to check on it, and everything was kosher. Grr. It all worked out in the end, but that was a source of stress I didn’t need.

You can’t get turkey legs in the park until 10:30a. I found 3 stands that have them; one in Fantasyland, and 2 in/near Adventureland. w00t!

I made the mistake of under-packing this time; I only packed 2 t-shirts. I figured I’d buy one in the park, but I couldn’t find the one I wanted. So I ended up without a t-shirt, which is fine, but was a little smelly for the flight home. Oh well.

It sounds like I’m complaining I think. I’m not. I had a great weekend with The Mouse. Looking forward to going again next year. BTW, Lucy is free for another year; kids get in as “a guest of Mickey Mouse” until they’re 3.
