Luna

Lunar Photography
First like with Pumpkin. I hardly really count this as a first light -- the sun was still up and the scope was on a photo tripod.
But, there you go. The FOV is so large that this is actually a 100% zoom cropped out of the original image.

Moon at 7 to 10 days.
Shot on 4 consecutive days from June 22 through June 25, 2007.
Here's what I have so far on my "all phases of the moon" project.
I was amazed to find out that the moon seems to rotate a bit. I guess that's lunation?

Moon at 9 days (1st quarter +2).
Decided to try 1/1600th instead of 1/400th now that the moon's a little brighter.
Might be good in a couple of days; should have used 1/800th tonight, I think.

Lunar Photography
Moon at 8 days (1st quarter +1).
Interesting to compare yesterday's shot to today and to see how much the moon changes from night to night.
2 down, 27 to go.

Lunar Photography
Moon at 7 days (1st quarter).
I don't take enough photos of the moon. It's particularly easy with the DSLR. I have it in the
back of my mind that I'm going to take shots of the moon in every phase and then do a collage or
something, but I never seem to get around to it...

Lunar Photography
Moon at 16 days old.
This is a comparison of 2 shots of the moon, taken on the same night, with the same exposure length,
one through the ED80 refractor and the other through the 8" f/5 reflector.
Other than compositing the two images together, no other modifications were made to the image.
This is the blue channel of each image.
The photo on the right is larger because of the reflector's longer focal length. (1000mm vs 600mm)
The photo on the right is brighter because of the reflector's faster f/ratio. (f/5 vs f/7.5)
In theory, the photo on the right could have finer details, because of the reflector's greater aperture. (8" vs. 3.1")
