M106, Galaxy in Ursa Major

M106 Another first-light image from the Gemini.
I was having fun with the GOTO on the Gemini. It was bringing up targets
really easily. I decided to try this big galaxy, to see if I could get a
little better image than last June.

M106 Chasing all of the Spring Galaxies before they get away for another year.
Who knew M106 had so many friends? IDs of the dimmer galaxies TBD.
90 minutes of exposure time brings a lot more detail,
but I still need to work on getting the backgrounds darker before the histogram falls apart...

M106
My first attempt at M106 came out not-too-bad. Could use better focus. And more exposure time. And finer image scale.
...but not bad.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the kind soul who created a webpage of the 100 largest galaxies, sorted by size.
M106 is 8th largest (as visible from mid-northern-hemisphere latitudes), and without that list, it would have taken me a *long* time
to get around to this target otherwise.
